Privacy Notice

Petition Validator is operated by Victory Waves Co. This notice describes the personal information this service handles. It sits alongside the Victory Waves Privacy Policy, which governs our practices generally; where this notice is more specific about Petition Validator, this notice applies.

1. If you signed a petition

When you sign a paper petition, the campaign or committee circulating it collects your information — typically your name, residential address, signature, and the date. That organization decides what to collect and why. It may then upload images of the petition sheets to Petition Validator so that the signatures can be checked against public voter registration records.

In that arrangement we act on the instructions of the campaign or committee, not on our own account. We use the information only to perform the validation work they ask for — reading the sheets, matching entries against voter records, and returning the results to them. We do not use petition signature data to build our own marketing lists, and we do not sell it.

Because the organization that circulated the petition decides how your information is used, requests about that information are best directed to them. If you do not know who they are, contact us and we will help you identify them.

2. Voter registration data we license

To check whether a signature belongs to a registered voter, we match against voter data licensed from commercial providers, including TargetSmart Communications and L2 (Labels & Lists, Inc.). Those providers obtain voter registration records from state and county election authorities and append commercially sourced information to them. We do not collect this information from voters directly.

If you are a registered voter, information about you may be in this data even if you have never signed a petition or used this service. Your choices about it are the same as they are across Victory Waves, and are described at Your Privacy Choices.

3. If you use Petition Validator

If you create an account, we collect your name, email address, organization, authentication information, and billing information processed by our payment provider, together with technical information such as device, browser, and usage data. We use it to provide and secure the service, to bill for it, to support you, and to communicate with you about it.

4. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to have it deleted or corrected, to opt out of its sale or sharing, and to limit our use of sensitive personal information. Exercising any of these is free and will never result in a lesser service or a different price.
